Lock your biometrics on the myAadhaar portal so they cannot be used for authentication without your action, and unlock them only when needed. Where an office does not need your whole number, hand over the masked version, which hides 8 of the 12 digits.
Worked example: Lata in Hubballi
Lata is 36 and works as a salaried hospital pharmacy supervisor in Hubballi, paid Rs. 56,000 a month; her CIBIL score is 733. She took her son for his mandatory biometric update at 5 and updated her own address after a move. With her Aadhaar card up to date, she borrowed Rs. 1.1 lakh for household furniture at an illustrative 16% per annum. The equated monthly instalment (EMI) was priced over 24 and 36 months.
EMI = P × R × (1 + R)^N ÷ [(1 + R)^N − 1]. Here P = Rs. 1,10,000, R = 16 ÷ 1,200 and N = months.
| Tenure | Monthly EMI (Rs.) | Total interest (Rs.) | EMI as share of salary (%) |
|---|
| 24 months (2 years) | 5,386 | 19,263 | 9.6 |
| 36 months (3 years) | 3,867 | 29,222 | 6.9 |

A 3-year term would trim Rs. 1,519 from each EMI but cost Rs. 9,959 more overall. Up to Rs. 4,543 goes on processing. Lata chose 24 months, keeping her Aadhaar card details unchanged through the loan.
What can delay approval: a CIBIL score below 650 or existing EMIs that take up a large share of your income. Names or addresses that do not match across documents, and more than one loan application in the same month, can also slow it down.
