Sony Tablet P: Price in India, Features and Specifications

The Sony Tablet P had two separate 5.5-inch TruBlack LCD touchscreen panels — one on each half of the clamshell body. When unfolded, both screens could be used together as a combined display for a larger viewing area, or independently for multitasking — watching video on one screen while browsing on the other. This was a genuinely innovative concept for 2012.

The Sony Tablet P was powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 — a dual-core processor that was considered capable for 2012 but is severely outdated by current standards. With just 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, it was always a constrained device even at launch. It cannot run modern Android apps or operating systems.

The Sony Tablet P had a 5MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front-facing VGA camera — reasonable specifications for a tablet launched in 2012. The rear camera supported still photography but did not support video recording — an unusual omission even for its era. The front camera was designed primarily for video calls.

The Sony Tablet P launched with Android 3.2 Honeycomb and received its final update to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. This was its last software update — no further Android versions were ever made available. Android 4.0.3 reached end of life in 2014 and no longer receives security patches. The Google Play Store is no longer functional on this Android version.

The Sony Tablet P offered Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G connectivity on its India variant — the SGPT211IN/S. It also had an infrared blaster, which was an unusual but practical feature for a 2012 tablet. There was no GPS on the standard Wi-Fi model and no NFC support.

The Sony Tablet P had a basic sensor set for its era — covering the essentials for tablet use including screen orientation and ambient lighting. It did not have a fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, or GPS — features that were not standard on tablets in 2012.

The Sony Tablet P had a 3,080mAh battery — a modest capacity by any standard, even for 2012. Battery life was limited given the dual-screen design drawing power from two displays simultaneously. Charging was via Micro-USB. As the tablet is discontinued, replacement batteries are not officially available through Sony's service network in India.

The Sony Tablet P had a mono speaker — a limitation of its compact clamshell design. It supported standard 3.5mm audio output for headphones. Audio playback through the built-in speaker was basic and not suited for immersive media consumption. For a better audio experience, wired headphones were the recommended option.
