PM Awas Yojana 2.0: Rs.900 crore DBT transferred to 90,000 beneficiaries in UP

The government has given a strong push to affordable housing under PM Awas Yojana 2.0 by transferring Rs.900 crore directly to nearly 90,000 beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh. This transfer has been carried out using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring that funds reach recipients quickly and without unnecessary delays. The step is expected to speed up housing construction across the state.

The DBT method removes middlemen from the process and allows the money to be credited straight into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. This improves transparency and ensures that eligible families receive the full financial support intended for them. The scheme mainly targets people from economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups.

Under PMAY 2.0, beneficiaries receive financial assistance to either build new houses or upgrade their existing ones. The programme also promotes the use of modern construction techniques and environmentally friendly materials, helping create long-lasting and sustainable homes. The recent release of Rs.900 crore is likely to boost construction activity in both rural and urban parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Officials have shared that a large number of houses are already close to completion, and many families have shifted into their new homes. Apart from improving housing conditions, the scheme has also created jobs in the construction sector, benefiting local workers and small businesses.

Experts believe that the DBT system has played an important role in the success of the scheme. Since funds are transferred directly, beneficiaries can track payments easily, which adds accountability and reduces the chances of misuse.

With higher budget allocation and better implementation, the government plans to include more families under PMAY 2.0. In 2026, the scheme continues to play a major role in improving housing access and living standards across Uttar Pradesh.

Verification of eligible beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana completed in UP, first instalment of the scheme will be credited to the account on this day

In Ambedkar Nagar district, the verification process for beneficiaries under PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 has been completed, and the first instalment is scheduled to be credited on 25 March. Around 700 eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive funds directly into their bank accounts under this phase.

Earlier, during the first phase of the scheme, many families in municipal areas such as Akbarpur, Jalalpur, and Tanda, along with several Nagar Panchayat regions, benefited by receiving permanent homes. The second phase application process had been ongoing for nearly two years, with a large number of applicants waiting for updates on their status.

By November 2025, detailed project reports (DPRs) had been prepared for nearly 5,000 applicants. However, after verification, a similar number of applications were rejected due to ineligibility. Since then, applicants had been regularly visiting municipal offices and the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) for updates.

Now, authorities have confirmed that funds for 700 approved beneficiaries will be released. Earlier, 250 beneficiaries had already received their first instalment and were also provided certificates under the scheme.

Officials have stated that bank-level verification is currently underway to ensure accurate fund transfers. Meanwhile, verification of around 10,000 additional applications is still in progress, with a significant portion found ineligible during checks conducted by local authorities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the new PMAY-U 2.0 scheme recently launched in Uttar Pradesh?

PMAY-U 2.0 is the updated phase of the urban housing scheme aimed at reducing housing shortages in cities between 01 April 2024 and 31 March 2029. It expands benefits to more income groups, including middle-income families, and focuses on interest subsidies and modern construction methods. In Uttar Pradesh, it also ensures quicker fund transfers directly to beneficiaries through improved coordination with local authorities.

How can I check the latest PMAY-G beneficiary list for 2026 in UP?

To view the PMAY-G 2026 list, visit the official rural housing portal and open the reports section. Choose the option for beneficiary verification and enter details such as state, district, block, and village. You can also search using your name if you do not have a registration number. The system will display whether your household has been approved under the scheme.

What are the specific eligibility rules for urban families in UP under PMAY 2.0?

Urban eligibility depends on income limits and property ownership. Families must fall under EWS, LIG, or MIG categories based on annual income brackets. Additionally, no member of the household should own a pucca house anywhere in India. Priority is often given to women applicants, elderly individuals, and people belonging to reserved categories, ensuring fair access to housing benefits.

How does the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) benefit home loan applicants?

The Interest Subsidy Scheme helps reduce the cost of home loans by offering a subsidy on interest payments. Eligible applicants can receive a subsidy of up to Rs.1.80 lakh on loans up to Rs.25 lakh. This amount is credited directly to the loan account, reducing the principal and lowering monthly EMIs, making home ownership more affordable over the repayment period.

Is it mandatory for the house to be in a woman's name in Uttar Pradesh?

For families under EWS and LIG categories, it is generally required that the property be registered in the name of a female member or jointly owned with her. This rule aims to promote women’s ownership and financial security. However, if there is no adult woman in the household, the property can be registered in the name of a male member.

What documents are required to apply for PMAY 2.0 in 2026?

Applicants must provide Aadhaar details for identity verification, income proof such as salary slips or certificates, and valid address proof like utility bills or voter ID. An affidavit confirming that the applicant does not own a pucca house is also required. For construction-based applications, documents proving ownership of land must be submitted for approval.

How do I track my PMAY application status online using my Aadhaar number?

You can track your application by visiting the official urban housing portal and selecting the status tracking option. Enter your assessment ID or personal details such as name and registered mobile number. After OTP verification, the system will display the current stage of your application, including verification, approval, or fund release status for easy tracking.

What is Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and who can use it in UP?

The BLC component is designed for individuals who already own land but need financial help to build or improve a house. Eligible families can receive assistance of up to Rs.2.5 lakh. Funds are usually released in stages based on construction progress, which is monitored through inspections, ensuring that the money is used properly for housing development.

Can I apply for PMAY if I already have a small or semi-pucca house?

Yes, applicants with a kutcha or partially constructed house may still qualify for assistance. If the existing structure lacks basic facilities or is too small, financial support may be granted to upgrade or expand it. Authorities will inspect the property and assess living conditions before approving assistance under the scheme.

What should I do if my name is missing from the PMAY beneficiary list?

If your name is not listed despite meeting the eligibility criteria, you should contact your local Gram Panchayat or Block office for rural schemes. They can help register your details for future surveys. Urban applicants can file a request through a Common Service Centre or helpline to get their application reviewed or resubmitted for consideration.
