Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs launches Angikaar 2025 campaign under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban 2.0 - Angikaar 2025: Last-mile outreach campaign to create awareness about PMAY-U 2.0

The Angikaar 2025 campaign was formally launched in New Delhi on 4th September 2025 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The initiative was introduced by the Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, along with the Minister of State and other key representatives involved in the Housing for All mission.

Angikaar 2025 focuses on reaching people at the grassroots level to improve awareness of PMAY-U 2.0 and support eligible urban families in understanding the benefits available to them. The campaign aims to speed up application verification, assist beneficiaries with pending documentation, and help complete houses that have already been approved under earlier phases of the scheme.

A major part of the campaign is educating stakeholders about related support systems, including the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing. It also encourages coordination with other Government initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, ensuring housing support goes hand in hand with basic utilities and infrastructure.

PMAY-U has already sanctioned over 120 lakh houses, with more than 94 lakh homes completed. Under PMAY-U 2.0, launched in September 2024, the Government aims to support one crore additional urban families with financial assistance of up to Rs. 2.50 lakh for constructing or purchasing permanent homes. Angikaar 2025 strengthens this vision by bringing services closer to vulnerable groups and ensuring benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

Running from 4th September to 31st October 2025 across more than 5,000 Urban Local Bodies, the campaign includes door-to-door outreach, awareness camps, loan melas, and community-based events. Key highlights include PMAY-U Awas Diwas on 17th September 2025 and the “PM Awas Mela – Shehri”, organised in two phases at district and municipal levels to promote participation, information sharing, and last-mile delivery of housing benefits.

Thanks to PMAY in Delhi, over 15 housing projects were initiated comprising units that feature necessary amenities such as water supply, power, recreation grounds, and security. The flats here cost onwards of Rs. 12.80 lakh, and with the help of a financial solution like the home loan, you can become a homeowner even with ease.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PMAY-U 2.0 and the original PMAY scheme in 2026?

PMAY-U 2.0, introduced in 2024, builds on the earlier scheme by widening eligibility to include middle-income groups earning up to Rs. 9 lakh annually. It also emphasises digital application processes and stronger construction standards. Unlike the earlier version, subsidies are now released in five yearly instalments of Rs. 36,000 each, instead of a lump sum, provided certain loan conditions are met.

Who is eligible to apply for the PMAY-U 2.0 housing subsidy in Delhi?

Applicants must fall under defined income categories such as EWS, LIG, or MIG with annual earnings up to Rs. 9 lakh. They should not own a pucca house anywhere in India. Priority is often given to women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and individuals from SC, ST, or minority groups, provided they meet income and documentation criteria.

Is it mandatory for a woman to be the owner of a house under PMAY in 2026?

Yes, for EWS and LIG categories, the house must either be registered in the name of a woman or jointly owned with her. This rule is intended to promote financial security and ownership among women. A large percentage of homes approved under the scheme are already registered under female or joint ownership, reflecting this policy focus.

How does the PMAY-U 2.0 Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) work for Delhi residents?

Under this scheme, eligible applicants can get a 4% interest subsidy on home loans up to Rs. 8 lakh for properties costing up to Rs. 35 lakh. The benefit, capped at Rs. 1.80 lakh, is credited in yearly instalments over five years. This reduces the loan principal and helps lower monthly EMIs, making housing more affordable.

What are the key features of the DDA Housing Scheme 2026 for premium buyers?

The DDA Housing Scheme 2026 offers ready-to-move flats for higher-income buyers, mainly in areas like Dwarka and Vasant Kunj. These homes are allocated through an online auction instead of a lottery system. Buyers can bid competitively, and the flats often come with benefits such as good locations, planned layouts, and parking facilities.

Can I apply for a PMAY subsidy if I am already building a house on my own land?

Yes, under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) component, individuals building or upgrading homes on their own land can receive financial support. Assistance of up to Rs. 2.50 lakh is provided in stages, based on construction progress. Authorities verify progress through geotagged updates to ensure the funds are used properly.

What documents are required to apply for the DDA Housing Scheme in 2026?

Applicants need to submit identity and financial documents such as a PAN card, Aadhaar card, and income proof. Those applying under reserved categories must also provide valid certificates, such as caste or disability proof. Additional documents may be required for special categories like ex-servicemen, and all submissions are handled online.

What is the "Affordable Rental Housing" (ARH) vertical under PMAY-U 2.0?

The Affordable Rental Housing component aims to provide low-cost rental homes for urban migrants, workers, and students. It uses existing vacant government housing or encourages new construction through partnerships. The goal is to offer safe and hygienic living spaces near workplaces, especially for those who may not be ready to purchase a home immediately.

How can I track my PMAY-U 2.0 application status online?

Applicants can check their application status through the official PMAY portal using their Assessment ID and registered mobile number. This system helps users monitor progress, including approval stages and subsidy release updates, ensuring transparency and easy access to information throughout the process.

What happens if I am unsuccessful in the DDA Housing Scheme draw or auction?

If an applicant is not selected in a draw, the earnest money deposit is usually refunded within about 15 days after results are announced. In auction-based schemes, while the deposit is refunded to unsuccessful bidders, the participation fee may not be returned. Successful bidders who withdraw later may also face certain penalties.
