Thailand travel guidelines

If you are planning a trip to the Land of Smiles, here is a comprehensive guide on how to travel to Thailand from India and essential tips to make your journey memorable.

  1. Visa requirements
For Indian citizens planning a trip to Thailand, a tourist visa is generally required. However, Thailand offers visa-free entry for Indian passport holders for short stays of up to 15 days, depending on the mode of entry. It is advisable to check the latest visa regulations and requirements from the official website of the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate.
  2. Flights to Thailand
Numerous airlines operate direct flights from major Indian cities to popular Thai destinations like Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi. Booking your flight well in advance can help you secure better deals. Keep in mind that direct flights might be more convenient, but connecting flights can offer more affordable options.
  3. Currency exchange
The currency used in Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB). It is recommended to exchange your Indian rupees to Thai Baht at authorised currency exchange centres or banks upon arrival in Thailand for a better rate. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but carrying some local currency for small purchases is always a good idea.
  4. Local transportation
Getting around Thailand is relatively easy, thanks to a well-developed transportation network. Taxis, tuk-tuks, and motorbike taxis are readily available in urban areas. For longer distances, consider using Thailand's efficient and affordable public transportation, such as buses or trains.
  5. Safety and health precautions
Thailand is generally a safe destination, but like any other country, it is essential to take certain precautions. Stay vigilant with your belongings, avoid isolated areas at night, and adhere to local laws and customs. Additionally, consult a healthcare professional for any recommended vaccinations before travelling.
  6. COVID-19 guidelines
Given the global pandemic, it is crucial to stay updated on Thailand's COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Check the latest travel advisories, quarantine requirements, and health protocols before your trip. Ensure you have the necessary documentation and follow all safety measures to protect yourself and others.
