LPG Subsidy

The LPG gas subsidy is a targeted financial benefit from the Government of India that helps eligible households afford domestic LPG cylinders. Under the current framework for FY 2025-26, extended by the Union Cabinet on 8 August 2025, only Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries receive an active per-refill subsidy of Rs. 300 on each 14.2 kg cylinder, for up to 9 refills a year. The total outlay for FY 2025-26 is Rs. 12,000 crore, covering 10.33 crore PMUY connections.

The subsidy is credited through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), also called DBTL or PAHAL, directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account, usually 2 to 4 working days after the refill is delivered. Non-PMUY, or general-category, households currently pay the market price without an active per-refill subsidy.

This is how the LPG subsidy and LPG cylinder subsidy work today, so check your category before you expect a credit. Once your refill is delivered, you can book the next one and pay at market price online through Bajaj Pay, the Bharat Connect platform on Bajaj Finance.

How to apply for LPG subsidy

The LPG subsidy process has two parts: getting a PMUY connection and seeding your Aadhaar and bank account for DBT. Follow these steps:

Step 1 — Apply for a PMUY connection (if you do not have one): Visit pmuy.gov.in or any IndianOil, BPCL or HPCL distributor with your Aadhaar, proof of eligible-household status (SECC 2011 data, ration card or the required declaration) and a women-headed household declaration. PMUY 2.0 and 3.0 connections include a deposit-free regulator, pressure gauge, Suraksha hose, DGCC booklet, and a first refill and stove at no cost.

Step 2 — Seed your Aadhaar with your LPG ID and bank account for DBT: This is what releases the Rs. 300 per-refill subsidy. Visit mylpg.in, log in with your LPG ID and registered mobile number, open Join DBTL, upload your Aadhaar and link your bank IFSC and account number. Offline, visit your distributor with the same documents. Once seeded, the LPG gas subsidy is auto credited 2 to 4 working days after each delivered refill.

Because LPG subsidy India rules change, confirm the latest documents and steps on mylpg.in before applying.

  • Benefits of getting LPG subsidy

The LPG subsidy under PMUY in 2026 saves eligible households up to Rs. 2,700 a year while supporting clean-cooking adoption. Its main benefits are:

    • Cost savings: PMUY beneficiaries save Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder, up to Rs. 2,700 across 9 refills a year.
    • Health benefits: Cleaner cooking fuel reduces smoke-related respiratory risks at home.
    • Environmental impact: LPG lowers reliance on wood and coal, cutting deforestation and emissions.
    • Ease of access: The subsidy is credited directly to your bank account, ensuring transparency.

How much can you save with LPG gas subsidy?

For Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries in 2026, the lpg gas subsidy is Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg domestic cylinder for up to 9 refills a year. The maximum annual saving works out to Rs. 300 × 9 = Rs. 2,700 per household. The subsidy is pro-rated for 5 kg cylinders.

By way of history, the PMUY subsidy started at Rs. 200 per cylinder in May 2022 with a 12-refill cap, was raised to Rs. 300 in October 2023, and the FY 2025-26 framework caps it at 9 refills a year.

Non-PMUY, or general-category, households currently pay the market price without a per-refill lpg cylinder subsidy. For reference, the market price of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi in March 2026 was around Rs. 913 after the Rs. 60 hike that month. Because the LPG subsidy india rates change, verify the current figures before you rely on them.

How to check LPG subsidy status in your bank account

To check your LPG subsidy status, log in to mylpg.in with your LPG ID, go to Cylinder Booking History and look for the Subsidy Transferred status against each refill. You can also check through your bank or by SMS. The three methods are:

    MethodWhat to look forTypical timeline
mylpg.in loginCylinder Booking History shows Subsidy Transferred or Subsidy Not Transferred for each refillUpdated after each refill
Bank net or mobile bankingRecent transactions with a credit narration such as DBTL, LPG SUB or PAHAL2 to 4 working days after refill
SMS from your oil companyIndianOil, BPCL or HPCL sends the subsidy amount and a transaction reference2 to 4 working days after refill

If the status shows Subsidy Not Transferred, the most common reason is that your Aadhaar-bank seeding is pending. Complete the DBT seeding on mylpg.in, then check again after your next refill to receive your LPG gas subsidy. Because LPG subsidy India processes change, confirm the current steps on mylpg.in before acting.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the LPG gas subsidy?
Individuals with an annual household income of less than ₹10 lakh (combined for the husband and wife) are eligible for the LPG gas subsidy. The subsidy is provided to households registered with LPG distributors, and the connection must be linked to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar number and bank account.

How much subsidy do I get on an LPG cylinder?
The subsidy amount varies based on government policies and the market price of LPG. On average, a subsidy of ₹200–₹300 per cylinder is provided, which is directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account after purchasing the cylinder at the market price.

How can I link my Aadhaar number to my LPG gas connection?
You can link your Aadhaar number to your LPG gas connection through:

1. Online: Visit the LPG provider’s website or use the Gas Booking Online service.

2. Offline: Submit a filled Form 2 at your LPG distributor’s office along with a copy of your Aadhaar card and bank passbook.

How do I check my LPG gas subsidy status?
To check your subsidy status:

1. Visit the official website of your LPG provider.

2. Log in with your registered mobile number or LPG ID.

3. Navigate to the subsidy status section to view details.

Alternatively, you can use the Gas Booking Online platform for updates.

How much LPG subsidy will I get in 2026?

For PMUY beneficiaries in 2026, the LPG subsidy is Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 9 refills a year, which is up to Rs. 2,700 annually. Non-PMUY households currently pay the market price without a per-refill subsidy.

Why is my LPG subsidy not credited to my bank account?

The most common reason is that your Aadhaar is not seeded with your bank account or LPG ID. Other causes include an inactive or incorrect bank account, or a refill not yet updated. Complete DBT seeding on mylpg.in and check again.

What is the difference between PMUY 2.0 and PMUY 3.0?

PMUY 2.0 expanded the scheme with deposit-free connections, a first free refill and stove, and simpler documentation for migrants. PMUY 3.0 continues the rollout to more eligible households under the extended framework. Both give beneficiaries the same per-refill subsidy.

Is the LPG subsidy available for non-PMUY (general-category) households in 2026?

No. In 2026, the active per-refill subsidy applies only to PMUY beneficiaries. Non-PMUY, or general-category, households currently pay the market price for a domestic LPG cylinder without a per-refill subsidy.

How many subsidised cylinders can I get in a year?

PMUY beneficiaries can claim the Rs. 300 subsidy on up to 9 refills of the 14.2 kg cylinder in a year under the current framework. Refills beyond this limit are charged at the market price.

How long does the LPG subsidy take to reflect in my account?

The subsidy is usually credited to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account within 2 to 4 working days of a delivered refill. If it does not appear, check your seeding status on mylpg.in.

Where do I file a complaint if my LPG subsidy is missing?

Raise it first with your LPG distributor or your oil company's portal (IndianOil, BPCL or HPCL). If it stays unresolved, escalate to the MoPNG e-Seva portal on mopng.gov.in, then to CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in.
