What is PMAY-G and who qualifies in Madhya Pradesh

PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin) is the Government of India's flagship rural housing scheme — providing financial assistance to help eligible rural families construct a pucca house with basic facilities. Madhya Pradesh is one of the largest beneficiary states given its extensive rural population.

Eligibility for PMAY-G is determined by the SECC (Socio-Economic and Caste Census) 2011 data, supplemented by the AwaasPlus survey which identifies households missed in SECC. The Gram Panchayat verifies and prioritises eligible households.

Who qualifies in MP:

  • Rural households living in kutcha houses or without adequate shelter
  • Priority: SC/ ST households, freed bonded labourers, widows of defence personnel, physically challenged persons
  • No pucca house owned by any family member anywhere in India
  • Family must not be excluded by any of the automatic exclusion criteria

Who is excluded

  • Families owning a motorised 3 or 4-wheeler vehicle
  • Families owning mechanised farming equipment (tractor, etc.)
  • Families with a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) with a credit limit of Rs. 50,000 or more
  • Any family member in government service
  • Families paying income tax or professional tax

Understanding your PMAY-G list status

When you find your name on the list, the record shows:

StatusWhat it means
AwaitedSurveyed but awaiting sanction from the block/ district level
SanctionedHouse has been approved — sanction order issued
1st Installment releasedRs. 40,000 (first tranche) has been transferred to your Aadhaar-linked bank account
2nd Installment releasedAdditional Rs. 40,000 after foundation/ lintel stage verification
3rd Installment releasedFinal Rs. 40,000 on completion (roofing stage)
CompletedFinal Rs. 40,000 on completion (roofing stage)

The total Rs. 1.20 lakh is released in three installments of Rs. 40,000 each, linked to construction progress. An additional Rs. 12,000 is released separately for toilet construction under Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM-G).

What to do if your name is not in the PMAY-G list

If you believe you are eligible but your name does not appear in the Madhya Pradesh PMAY-G list:

  • Check the AwaasPlus survey: New beneficiary selections now come from the AwaasPlus 2.0 survey — ask your Gram Panchayat whether your household was surveyed. If not, request inclusion in the self-survey window when it is open.
  • Check automatic exclusion: Verify whether your family has any of the exclusion criteria (motorised vehicle, KCC above Rs. 50,000, government job, pucca house). These automatically exclude a household regardless of income.
  • Verify Aadhaar and account details: If your name is in the list but payment hasn't arrived, confirm your Aadhaar is linked to an active bank account with NPCI DBT mapping at your bank branch.
  • Waitlist position: Being surveyed and appearing in the waiting list does not mean immediate sanction — houses are sanctioned in phases against yearly targets. High rank on the panchayat waiting list means sanction will come in the current or next financial year.
  • Approach the Block Office: File a representation with your Block Development Officer (BDO) with copies of your SECC/AwaasPlus record and Aadhaar. The block office can initiate corrections for name spelling errors and verify your eligibility.

PMAY-G construction tracking — geo-tagged photos

Every PMAY-G house in Madhya Pradesh must have geo-tagged photographs at each construction stage: foundation, lintel, roof, and completion. These are uploaded by beneficiaries or Panchayat officials through the AwaasApp.

To verify geo-tagged photos for your house:

  1. On the beneficiary report at rhreporting.nic.in, look for the geo-tag status column
  2. Green status means all required photos are submitted
  3. Pending geo-tag means the installment may be blocked until photos are submitted

PMAY-G in Madhya Pradesh — progress and targets

Madhya Pradesh is one of India's largest PMAY-G implementing states given its large rural population across 55 districts. The scheme has been extended through FY 2028–29 with a national target of 4.95 crore rural homes — of which MP accounts for a significant share.

For rural households in MP who are yet to receive PMAY-G assistance despite being eligible: the key action is ensuring your household is included in the AwaasPlus 2.0 survey and that your Aadhaar is linked to an active NPCI-enabled bank account. Without both, even an approved sanction cannot result in payment delivery.

For rural residents of MP planning home construction beyond PMAY-G assistance: the Rs. 1.20 lakh grant covers basic construction but may need to be supplemented for a larger or higher-quality home. Residents with some regular income can explore home loan options — though formal home loans require income documentation and property title, which are emerging in rural MP through Swamitva Scheme (PM Swamitva) property cards in rural abadi areas. Confirm with your Panchayat whether your village abadi (inhabited residential area) has been covered under PM Swamitva.

Yes — PMAY-G covers all rural areas across all 55 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Priority varies by district based on housing shortage data and annual targets allocated by the Ministry of Rural Development.

Can farmers apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin in MP?

Yes, farmers can be considered for PMAY-G in Madhya Pradesh, provided their household meets the scheme's eligibility criteria. However, landholding can affect eligibility: the official PMAY-G questionnaire excludes households owning 2.5 acres or more of irrigated land or 5 acres or more of unirrigated land. Other exclusion criteria also apply.

Should I apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin in Madhya Pradesh?

You should consider applying or participating in the PMAY-G survey if you live in a rural area and meet the eligibility conditions. The official PMAY-G criteria consider whether the household is houseless or lives in a kutcha house, alongside housing, asset, income, employment and landholding conditions. AwaasPlus 2024 supports self and assisted surveys.

Can landowners apply for PM Awas Yojana Gramin in Madhya Pradesh?

Yes, owning land does not automatically prevent a household from being considered for PMAY-G. However, landholding is part of the eligibility assessment. The official questionnaire asks about irrigated and unirrigated land and excludes households meeting specified thresholds. PMAY-G also has provisions concerning landless beneficiaries, indicating that land ownership and scheme eligibility are assessed separately.
