What is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi?
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central government scheme launched on 24 February 2019 that provides direct income support of ₹6,000 per year to eligible landholding farmer families across India. The amount is paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, every four months, directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The scheme has covered more than 11 crore farmer families since launch, with total disbursements exceeding ₹4.27 lakh crore. Budget 2026–27 allocated ₹60,000 crore for PM-KISAN — confirming its continued priority in central farm welfare spending.

Who is eligible for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi?
Eligible:
- Landholding farmer families — husband, wife, and minor children — who collectively own cultivable land as per state land records
- Land must be registered in the farmer's name in state or revenue records
- All categories of farmers — small, marginal, and large landholders — are eligible (no land ceiling after 2019 revision)
Not eligible:
- Institutional landholders
- Present and past holders of constitutional posts (President, Vice-President, Ministers, MPs, MLAs, etc.)
- Retired government employees drawing pension of ₹10,000 or more per month
- Income tax payers
- Professionals registered with professional bodies (doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, architects)
e-KYC is mandatory — complete before the 24th installment
Aadhaar-based e-KYC is mandatory for all PM-KISAN beneficiaries. Incomplete e-KYC means the ₹2,000 installment is withheld regardless of when the government releases it.
How to complete e-KYC:
Option 1 — OTP method on portal (fastest):
- Visit pmkisan.gov.in and click 'eKYC' under Farmers Corner
- Enter your Aadhaar number and click 'Search'
- Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
- e-KYC is complete
Option 2 — Face Authentication via PMKISAN app:
- Download PMKISAN GoI app
- Click 'Face Authentication eKYC'
- Enter your Aadhaar number and allow camera access
- Complete the face scan — this works even if your Aadhaar mobile number is inactive
Option 3 — Visit CSC (Common Service Centre): Visit your nearest CSC for biometric-based e-KYC if both OTP and face authentication fail.
Why didn't I receive the PM Kisan installment?
The most common reasons for non-payment, and how to fix each:
e-KYC not completed: Complete e-KYC on pmkisan.gov.in using OTP, the PMKISAN app (Face Auth), or at a CSC before the next installment release date.
Aadhaar not linked to bank account (NPCI seeding missing): The payment goes to the account mapped in the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) mapper — not just any Aadhaar-linked account. Visit your bank branch and fill the "DBT/NPCI Aadhaar Seeding form" to ensure your account is correctly seeded.
Name mismatch between Aadhaar and PM Kisan records: If the name in your PM Kisan registration differs from your Aadhaar, the payment can fail. Correct through the "Updation of Self-Registered Farmers" option in Farmers Corner, or visit your nearest Agriculture Department office.
Incorrect bank account details: Update your bank account details at pmkisan.gov.in under Farmers Corner → 'Updation of Self-Registered Farmers'.
Land record dispute or state data issue: If state land records show a discrepancy in the land registered under your name, contact your state's agriculture department for correction.
Included in exclusion category: If any family member is now a government employee, income tax payer, or has become ineligible, the family should voluntarily opt out using the "Give Up" option on the portal to avoid compliance issues.

Farmer ID — what is it and when is it mandatory?
The Unique Farmer ID (also called Farmer Registry ID) is a new digital identity under the AgriStack initiative that consolidates a farmer's land, crop, livestock, and income data in one digital record. The government has made Farmer ID mandatory for new registrations in 14 states as of 2026 and is expected to extend this requirement nationally for future installments.
If you have not yet enrolled for a Farmer ID, apply at your nearest CSC or Agriculture office with your Aadhaar, land records, and bank passbook.
