Agriculture is a key pillar of Maharashtra’s economy, supporting a large population of farmers and rural households. However, increasing climate variability has created serious challenges for the sector. Issues such as irregular rainfall, declining soil health, and frequent droughts have affected crop productivity and farmer incomes, especially in vulnerable regions. These conditions highlight the urgent need for sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices.
To address these concerns, the Government of Maharashtra introduced the Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjivani Project (PoCRA). This initiative focuses on building climate-resilient agriculture by promoting sustainable farming methods, improving water management, and enhancing soil health. The scheme is specifically targeted at drought-prone areas, where farmers are most affected by climate risks.
PoCRA also encourages community participation, capacity building, and adoption of modern agricultural practices. It supports farmers through financial assistance and technical guidance to implement climate-smart solutions. By strengthening resilience at the grassroots level, the scheme aims to improve farm productivity, ensure stable incomes, and boost the overall rural economy.
