While it was praised for its sharp display and smooth performance at the time, it no longer receives updates and is best suited only for basic use today.

The Google Nexus 7 was officially announced in July 2013 and launched in India shortly after its global release on 26 July 2013 — making it the first device to ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and one of the most acclaimed compact Android tablets of its era. Since the Google Nexus 7 is permanently discontinued, software support has ended with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as its final update and the device is unavailable through any authorised Indian retail platform.

The Google Nexus 7 was launched in India in 2013 at a starting price of approximately Rs. 14,999 for the 16GB Wi-Fi variant and Rs. 17,999 for the 32GB variant — making it one of the most competitively priced premium compact Android tablets available in India at the time.

The Google Nexus 7 was available in two colour options — Black and White (White added December 2013) — both featuring a soft-touch plastic back with aluminium accents. It came in two storage configurations: 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and 2GB RAM with 32GB storage. Neither variant supports expandable storage via microSD card.

The Google Nexus 7 comes with 2GB of LPDDR2 RAM — double that of the first-generation model, handling Android multitasking and everyday productivity tasks smoothly at the time. By 2026 standards, 2GB RAM is significantly limited for modern Android requirements.

The Google Nexus 7 came in two internal storage options — 16GB and 32GB — with no expandable storage via microSD card. The absence of a microSD slot makes the 32GB variant the strongly recommended choice for buyers managing storage carefully.

The Google Nexus 7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It is a capable chipset built on a 28 nm architecture with a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait 300 CPU paired with the Adreno 320 GPU. This chipset delivered smooth, responsive everyday performance and gaming.

The Google Nexus 7 features a 7-inch IPS LCD display with a sharp FHD+ resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and an impressive pixel density of approximately 323 PPI. The display type delivered vivid, crisp visuals. With a 16:10 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass protection, the Google Nexus 7 offered an exceptional everyday reading and streaming experience for students and everyday users.

The Google Nexus 7 features a 5MP rear camera with autofocus — a significant upgrade over the first-generation model which had no rear camera — handling document scanning, casual photography, geo-tagging, HDR, and 1080p video recording. The front camera is a 1.2MP wide-angle shooter — adequate for 720p video calls and basic video conferencing.

The Google Nexus 7 features a standard 60Hz IPS LCD display refresh rate. While the 60Hz panel is dated by 2026 standards, the 7-inch 323 PPI IPS display delivered sharp, smooth, and visually impressive everyday performance for reading, streaming, and browsing.
