How a mandate change keeps your EMI repayment on track

Your NACH mandate is what allows your EMI to be auto-debited from your bank account each month. If you update your mandate, timing it correctly and understanding what repeated bounces can do to your credit score both matter.

Timely mandate update prevents overdue EMIs

Since e-NACH registration can take a few business days to be verified and activated by your bank, it is advisable to update your mandate at least 10 to 15 days before your next EMI due date. This gives enough time for the new mandate to be processed and linked to your loan account before the auto-debit is attempted.

Updating closer to the due date increases the risk that your bank has not yet confirmed the new mandate when the EMI is due, which could cause the auto-debit to fail. Allowing this buffer is a simple way to keep your EMI repayment running smoothly, without needing to make a manual payment that month.

Impact of repeated NACH bounces on credit score

A single NACH bounce, caused by an outdated mandate or insufficient balance, is usually just an inconvenience. However, if your mandate details are not corrected and this happens repeatedly, each bounced EMI is generally reported to CIBIL and other credit bureaus, and can show up as a missed or delayed payment on your credit report.

Over time, repeated bounces can lower your CIBIL score, since lenders view them as a sign of unreliable repayment. They may also attract bounce or penal charges as per your loan agreement. Keeping your mandate details current, and updating them well before your due date, is the simplest way to avoid this pattern altogether.

One flag: I've kept the "10 to 15 days" buffer as practical guidance rather than a stated official rule, since I couldn't find an RBI or NPCI-mandated lead time for this, only general e-NACH processing times. Worth confirming this figure matches Bajaj Finance's actual internal guidance before publishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Changing Mandate

Mandate Failure & Overdue

How do I change my e-mandate in Bajaj Finserv My Account?

Sign in to Bajaj Finance My Account, go to Menu, then Bank details or Documents, and select Change against the relevant loan. Enter your new bank account number and IFSC, then complete registration through net banking, debit card, or Aadhaar-based e-NACH.

Can I change my mandate to a different bank account online?

Yes. You can register a new mandate for a different bank account through My Account or the app. Generally, only one active bank account can be linked for auto-debit at a time, so your new registration replaces the previous one once confirmed.

How many days does it take to update the mandate after submitting the request?

This varies by method, with digital, Aadhaar-based registration generally faster than a physical form. I found conflicting timeframes across sources for this, so please confirm the exact current figure with Bajaj Finance directly before stating a specific number.

What should I do if my EMI was not deducted due to a mandate issue?

Pay the EMI manually through My Account or the app using UPI or net banking as soon as possible, to avoid further charges. Then check that your mandate details are correct and update them, so future EMIs are deducted smoothly.

Will I be charged for a bounce if my mandate is linked to an old bank account?

Yes, generally. If your EMI attempt fails because your mandate points to an old or closed account, this is usually treated as a bounce, and bounce or penal charges as per your loan agreement may apply. Update your mandate promptly to avoid this.

How do I pay my overdue EMI while the mandate update is being processed?

You can pay manually through Bajaj Finance My Account or the app using UPI or net banking while your mandate update is pending. This keeps your account current and avoids additional charges, even before the new mandate becomes active.
