Features and specification of Redmi Note 12 5G

Design

The Redmi Note 12 5G has a similar design to the Note 12 Pro+. The phone has a frosty polycarbonate glass on top. It not only offers a good hand-feel but also adds a unique visual appeal when sunlight reflects from the surface. In addition, the phone has IP53 Dust and Water Resistance and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

With 188 g weight and 7.99 mm thickness, the phone is quite comfortable to hold and use. It comes in 3 exquisite colours - Matte Black, Mystique Blue, and Frosted Green.

Super AMOLED display

The Redmi Note 12 5G flaunts a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ 1080p resolution. You can expect an immersive viewing experience with punchy colours, impressive viewing angles, and improved colour contrast.

The display has a refresh rate of 60Hz by default but can be scaled up to 120 Hz. However, it is not adaptive, so you must set the refresh rate manually. When the display is set to 120 Hz, you can enjoy smooth scrolling and seamless animation during gameplay. The screen also gets bright outdoors, producing vivid colours with the default colour profile. At the ‘standard’ setting, the colours are more natural-looking.

It is a bummer that there is no HDR playback support for streaming apps. However, it does have a Widevine L1 certification, which supports Full-HD video playback for various OTT platforms.

Camera specification

Redmi Note 12 5G features a three rear-camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary lens, an 8MP Ultra-wide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The daylight shots from the main camera are acceptable, with reasonable details, and mostly accurate colours. However, the details are on the lower side, something you will not expect from a mid-range smartphone.

The 8MP Ultra-wide sensor clicks decent images with plenty of details when there is adequate sunlight. The corner detailing could have been much better, given the price point. On the other hand, the 2MP macro sensor performs average.

As for selfies and video calling, the Redmi Note 12 5G has a 13MP front camera. It captures images with accurate skin tones and facial detailing. In addition, both the main and front cameras are capable of clicking excellent portrait images.

Simply put, daylight photography with Redmi Note 12 5G is satisfactory, but it is not at all impressive for low-light and indoor photography.

Efficient work performance

The Redmi Note 12 5G is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, 4GB / 6GB LPDDR4X, and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. You can expand the storage up to 1TB using a microSD card in the hybrid dual-SIM tray. This mobile phone also supports the Virtual RAM feature, allowing you to add a maximum of 5GB RAM virtually.

Whether you are launching new apps, web browsing, or multitasking, you can expect a smooth experience. It handles day-to-day tasks seamlessly, ensuring fast and efficient performance. When it comes to gaming, there are no lags whatsoever. You can enjoy extended gameplay hours without worrying about stuttering.

Battery life and charging

The Redmi Note 12 5G packs a 5,000 mAh battery, delivering about a day and a half of power on a single charge. Even if your usage includes gaming, binge-watching Full-HD videos, and taking pictures, it has enough battery at the end of the day. However, if 120 Hz refresh rate and 5G features are used together, the battery is more likely to get drained quickly.

The smartphone comes with a 33 W charger, which requires about 1 hour 14 minutes to juice the mobile to 100%.

Software and other specifications

The brand has launched Redmi Note 12 5G with Android 12. It runs MIUI 13 with a set of customisations. Though you get bloatware with several pre-installed third-party apps, it surprisingly does not hinder the user experience. The software experience remains quite smooth and seamless.

Additionally, the phone supports eleven 5G bands, with dual-5G standby. Regarding the communication features, the Redmi Note 12 5G includes Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi ac, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone port.
