Financial Inclusion.

A Founding Principle

In 1926, Jamnalal Bajaj, freedom fighter, social reformer, philanthropist, and considered the fifth adopted son of Mahatma Gandhi, formally established the Bajaj Group, with a belief that business must serve the nation. Nearly a century later, Bajaj Finance Ltd. (BFL) stands as the most powerful expression of that belief.

A Transformative Purpose

BFL was born in 1986-87 as a captive auto-financing unit to make mobility affordable to India's middle classes. Its first customers were school teachers from Solapur, who sought loans to buy two-wheelers to reach villages where they taught. That act of enabling aspiration became the template for the future and a steady march toward bringing millions into India’s formal financial system.

Built for Scale

Today, BFL is India’s largest private sector NBFC, serving 1 in 3 Indian households, disbursing a loan every second, and offering the full suite of financial products: loans, Fixed Deposits, payments, insurance, mutual funds, and wealth management, across App, Web and Pan-India locations.

And nearly 40% of our newly added customers are new-to-credit. A measure of inclusion no balance sheet can fully capture.

In FY2026, BFL crossed `5 lakh crore in AUM and disbursed over 50 million loans.

Wired for the Future

From the start, BFL has been a data-first and risk-first company. BFL 1.0 (2008-2016) built the foundation for innovation: EMI cards, Flexi loans, early cloud adoption, and data-led decision-making. BFL 2.0 deepened the digital play, bringing omnipresent strategy to life, placing the customer at the centre of every platform decision.

BFL 3.0 is now redefining financial services through FINAI. The strategy is three-pronged: deepening customer centricity, asserting technology leadership, and building towards being India’s lowest-risk company.

From Cotton to Credit

A hundred years ago, in Wardha, the Bajaj story began with cotton. Built on the ideals of self-reliance, it would, in time, become woven into the fabric of a nation. Today, that same purpose lives on in Bajaj Finance, reimagined as financial inclusion. The mission remains what it always was—to fulfil the financial needs of every Indian, every day.
