Getting a second medical opinion is deemed as one of the more reliable ways to rule out certain reservations about the condition and the treatment. However, the costs to seek a second medical opinion can often seem quite high.
FlexiCare Group Insurance Policy - Surgery Medical Second Opinion Benefit from Manipal Cigna Health Insurance Co. Ltd. covers the expenses of seeking medical advice from a network of medical practitioners.

Eligibility: Individuals between the age of 18 and 65 years can avail this plan. The age is taken as on the last birthday.


Plan Validity: The plan is valid for a tenor of one year.

    Expenses on second opinion

    If during the policy year, the policyholder is diagnosed with a critical illness, permanent total disablement, permanent partial disablement, or temporary total disablement and advised surgery by a medical practitioner, then the policyholder may choose to secure a second opinion from a specialist for such treatment, from a network of medical practitioners. Such opinion from the network of medical practitioners shall be directly sent to the policyholder.

    The policyholder understands and agrees that they can exercise the option to secure an expert opinion, provided that:

    1. A written request from the policyholder to exercise this option has been submitted.
    2. The expert opinion will be based only on the information and documentation provided by the policyholder. 
    3. This coverage can be availed only once by each insured person during the policy's lifetime for a particular condition.
    4. This cover is only a value-added service and does not deem to substitute the policyholder's visit or consultation to an independent medical practitioner.
    5. The policyholder is free to choose whether or not to obtain the expert opinion, and if obtained, then whether or not to act on it.
    6. The insurer shall not, in any event, be responsible for any actual or alleged errors or representations made by any medical practitioner or in any expert opinion or for any consequence of actions taken or not taken in reliance thereon.
    7. The expert opinion under this cover shall be limited to covered conditions and shall not be valid for medico-legal purposes.
    8. We do not assume any liability towards any loss or damage arising out of or about any opinion, advice, prescription, actual or alleged errors, omissions, and representations made by the medical practitioner.

    Note: For definitions of permanent total disablement, permanent partial disablement, temporary total disablement, or coma, please refer to the product brochure before concluding a sale.

    Waiting Period

    The initial waiting period for this cover is 30 days.

    Critical Illness shall mean illnesses listed below or as customized for a policy and specified under the policy schedule.

    1. Cancer of specific severity 2. Aorta Graft Surgery 3. Apallic Syndrome
    4. Myocardial Infarction (First Heart Attack – of Specific Severity) 5. Deafness (Loss of Hearing) 6. Parkinson’s Disease

    10. Open Heart Replacement or Repair of Heart Valves 11. Aplastic Anaemia 12. Muscular Dystrophy
    13. Coma of Specified Severity 14. Coronary Artery Disease 15. Loss of Speech
    16. Kidney Failure Requiring Regular Dialysis 17. End-Stage Lung Disease 18. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
    19. Stroke Resulting in Permanent Symptoms 20. End-Stage Liver Failure 21. Loss of Limbs
    22. Major Organ/ Bone Marrow Transplant 23. Third Degree Burns (Major Burns) 24. Major Head Trauma

What is Not Covered / Exclusions

  • Any pre-existing disease is not covered in this policy
  • Line of treatment other than consultation is not covered 
  • More than one consultation per policy year
