Lost PAN Card? Learn How To Apply For A New PAN Card

  • Highlights

  • First, make it a point to report the loss to the police

  • Then, request a reprint of your PAN card instead of applying for a new one

  • Apply for a duplicate PAN online via the TIN-NSDL website

  • Buy a Card Protection Plan to get free PAN card replacement in the future

As someone who is a contributing member of the economy, you absolutely must have a PAN card. Introduced by the Income Tax Act, this system provides you a unique alphanumeric series that records all your important financial transactions. It is a nationally accepted proof of identity, essential for filing taxes, and facilitates investments, property purchase and jewellery purchase too.

Hence, needless to say, losing your PAN card is far from ideal. Here are the steps that you should take immediately after.

Report the loss

Firstly, report the loss of your PAN card to the police. This is an important step as the card has your personal, confidential information and can be misused. Once you do this, move on to the next steps. Fortunately, you don’t have to reapply for a new PAN card. You simply have to request a reprint of your existing PAN details, in other words, apply for a duplicate PAN.

- Visit the Tax Information Network (TIN) website and open the form that allows you to apply for a new PAN. Alternatively, click here.
- Then, under ‘Application Type’, select ‘Changes or correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN data)’.
- Fill in the form with the correct details, ensuring that you provide information for all the fields that bear an asterisk alongside.
- When asked to choose your mode of submission of documents, select the Aadhaar-based e-KYC option. This is the most straightforward route, as you don’t have to manually fill your address. However, ensure that your Aadhaar is linked with your PAN beforehand, and remember that the reprint of your PAN card will be mailed to the address mentioned on your Aadhaar card.
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter this OTP in the field on the screen to complete the process.
- However, if you choose not to submit documents via Aadhaar, you will have to select the eSign option. Then, upload proof of identity and address, your date of birth, as well as proof that you have already been allotted a PAN.

Safeguard yourself with a Card Protection Plan

To ensure that such a scenario doesn’t throw you off in the future, be prepared with a Card Protection Plan, a type of insurance policy that you can buy from Bajaj Finserv. Here, you can report the loss of your debit, credit or PAN card by making a single phone call, and you will get free PAN card replacement too. You can buy this Card Protection Plan by calling a toll-free number or buy it online, and make a claim by calling a 24x7 helpline.

So, while losing your PAN card can be distressing, if you have a Card Protection Plan, getting a free PAN card replacement is easy and stress-free. Make just one call and breathe easy.
