Managing and tracking your EPF account just got a lot easier with the introduction of the Universal Account Number (UAN). Described as ‘one-employee-one EPF account’, you can merge as many as 10 EPF accounts with UAN online.
Here is how you can do it:

To be able to link old EPF accounts, activate your UAN number. You can get the UAN from your current employer or find it on your salary slip. Follow the below steps to activate your UAN:
1. Visit the website - https://unifiedportal.epfindia.gov.in/
2. In the ‘For Employees’ section, click on ‘UAN Member e-Sewa’
3. Click on ‘Activate UAN’ in the Important Links section
4. Complete the form by filling your UAN/PAN/Aadhaar number and other basic details
5. Enter the OTP received on your phone to Activate the UAN
Please note that the EPF account merging process can be done three days after activating the UAN.
Before you begin the linking process, make sure your KYC details and Aadhaar details are verified by the employer. Register and update your details with the EPF office (EPFO). Keep the UAN and EPF account number(s) ready to start the process.
Use your Aadhaar details to link your accounts and withdraw your Provident Fund (PF). To do so, link your Aadhaar and UAN numbers. Here are the steps you need to follow:
1. Visit the website - https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/
2. Enter the UAN and password and log in to your UAN account
3. In the top menu, click on ‘Manage’ and scroll down to ‘KYC’. Click.
4. Under ‘Add KYC’, add your Aadhaar details. You can also add your bank details and PAN, if it’s not already added.
5. Click ‘Submit’
6. The details are now visible under ‘Pending KYC’ section and sent to your employer for verification
7. In about 15 days, once the employer has approved, these details will then be shown under ‘Approved KYC’ section
Once all the basic criteria are fulfilled, you can now link your UAN with multiple accounts. Here is a step-by-step guide.
1. Visit the website - https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/
2. Enter the UAN and password and log-in to your UAN account
3. In the top menu, click on ‘Online Services’
4. From the drop down, click on ‘One Member - One EPF Account’
5. On the next page, feed in your registered mobile number, UAN and the current member ID to which UAN is linked. You can get the current member ID from your employer
6. Click ‘Generate OTP’
7. Enter the OTP sent to the registered mobile number
8. Next you must enter the old EPF id in the given space, accept the declaration and submit to link the EPF account with UAN
By following these simple steps, you can merge all the old EPF accounts, access the passbook and even apply for EPF withdrawal online.
