7 facts about mAadhaar that you should know

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched the mAadhaar application in July, 2017. You can now carry your Aadhaar data with you on your smartphone, without the fear of damaging or losing your Aadhaar card. Furthermore, this app can be used to complete the identity check while traveling by flight or trains too, and simplifies the act of carrying multiple ID and address proofs in your wallet. As this app is password-protected, it also keeps your information secure.

Here are 7 things that you need to know about the mAadhaar app.

1. You have to register your mobile

In order for mAadhaar to be available on your mobile, you will need to register or link your mobile number with your Aadhaar. You can also add the Aadhaar app only if it is associated with the same number as your registered mobile SIM.

2. You can use it only on Android devices as of now

As of now the mAadhaar app is available for download only on Android devices supporting Android 5.0 and above. The IOS version can be expected soon as it is being developed.

3. You can log in with secure OTP and TOTP authentication

This app auto reads the OTP (one-time password) as manual OTP entry is barred for security purposes. There is also a time-based OTP feature that can be used as an alternative to the OTP.

4. You can add up to 3 Aadhaar cards on one device

You can add up to 3 Aadhaar cards on one mobile device; however, an Aadhaar can be active only on one device at a time for security features. Also, in regard to the mobile number policy, you will be able to add 3 Aadhaar cards only if they have been registered under the mobile number of your mobile SIM.

5. You can lock or unlock your biometric data

You can choose to lock your biometric data for security purposes. This makes it inaccessible until you unlock the same. You can do so easily making the use of mAadhaar safe and easy.

6. You can use it to complete eKYC procedures

Now most bank accounts can be applied for online. In order to complete an eKYC for the same, you can use the mAadhaar. Sharing the password-protected eKYC data or QR code helps you easily share your information and hasten the account opening process.

7. You can download the mAadhaar app

Downloading the mAadhaar is easy. All you have to do is log on to Google Play Store or open the Google Play Store app, Type mAadhaar in the search bar and download the same. In order to ensure you are downloading the right app check to see if the developers name listed as ‘Unique Identification Authority of India’.
